Club Ashfield is the venue and with its long residency, The Bridge City Jazz Band is the band....a nominal 4 piece we have three special guests each Friday taking the band up to a 7 piece swinging trad.jazz band...this coming Friday 31st May sees the band led by Bob Barnard, who've we've not had for over a year...Monique Lysiak will be on piano and Lawrie Thompson on drums...a super night shaping up......

We've not had Bob Barnard at Club Ashfield with the Bridge City Jazz Band for over a year and so the coming Friday 31st May should be a cracker...the band led by the foremost traditional jazz trumpeter in Australia.....

On piano at late notice is Monique Lysiak who is a frequent visitor to the band...

And super drummer Lawrie Thompson makes out the third of our special guests on the night....

 

 And the other members of the Bridge City Jazz Band on the night are the regulars....

The gig starts at our usual time...7.30pm to 10.30pm in the first floor bistro/function area of the Club....which is right beside Ashfield Railway station   in Charlotte Street.....

We've hosted birthday bashes for popular traditional Jazz muso's for over 8 years now and this coming Friday, 17th May see this as one of the more memorable ones....
Kate Dunbar..Australian Jazz icon, OAM for services to jazz, still running her weekly Singers Workshop , and still with  a great voice.....
Kate turns 90 on 13th May....
Jack Wiard, born and educated in Lodi, Ca, USA and came to Sydney as a young man and stayed...a great reeds player.....has a residency with the Robbers Dogs Jazz Band...
Jack turns 70 on 12th May....
Geoff Power leads the band on cornet with Frank Watts on piano and Jim Morrell on drums as the other special guest...regulars John Bates, trombone and vocals, Colin Davies on double bass and myself, Dennis Quinlan on banjo make up the band for the night.....
Believe me it will be some night.....
Selected sit-ins, a really large birthday cake for all present to sample after Kate and Jack cut it and both with large A3 birthday cards, suitably illustrated with photographs of their life and room for the audience....and we hope you will be one....to sign....

Paul Furniss returns to Club Ashfield as the leader of  the Bridge City Jazz band this coming Friday 10th May......
His strong lead with soprano saxophone haunts back to the style of the great creole soprano player Sidney Bechet, originally from New Orleans.....
Pauls playing often reflects Bechet's style....
Monique Lysiak is a great piano player and complements Paul with long time friend and player in Paul's own band, the San Francisco Jazz Band, Viv Carter on drums.....
Heck I can hardly wait for the evening to arrive myself!
