Welcome to Sydney's traditional jazz scene...live jazz in Sydney......Club Ashfield is the venue and with its long residency, The Bridge City Jazz Band is the band....a nominal 4 piece we have three special guests each Friday taking the band up to a 7 piece swinging trad.jazz band...and this coming Friday 26th February we've a special night...we are featuring a two trumpet night with Geoff and James Power on trumpets, Peter Locke on piano, Paul Furniss on reeds and Lawrie Thompson on drums...the Powers will feature King Oliver music, Lu Watters West Coast USA jazz...we haven't had this style of traditonal jazz in Sydney for some years....

I've wanted to put on another two trumpet night featuring traditional jazz in the King Oliver, Lu Watters style for some time now and it is over 3 years since I had the late, sadly missed, John Wilson do it at Club Ashfield....
I spoke to Geoff Power over it some months ago and he's put up a program for the evening that will be great traditional jazz in this style...we welcome his son James Power to Club Ashfield as the supporting trumpet...well who knows perhaps he'll play lead.....
Peter Locke is on Club Ashfields grand piano our regular reed player Colin Beal is sitting out for the evening..well he's sure to dance the night away with his sister Dorathy, Colin likes the Lindy Hop style of dancing and Paul Furniss is on reeds for the night...Mr.Smoothie, Lawrie Thompson is on the band's drum stool and the regular Bridge City Jazz Band members, John Bates, Colin Davies and myself, Dennis Quinlan make up the 8 piece band for the night...
Crikey I'm sure looking forward to this evening....
So should you...get your glad rags on and come along.....
